Grubenfest (pit fest) in Grammelkam

It' s finished - after 14 years of work, the final truck drove over the scales on 31.07.2019.

More than 100 guests arrived in Grammelkam and despite the rain they celebrated the conclusion with us. Messrs Schmidt, Weißbach and Reinke also made the long journey to us.

Mrs. Tiede from Umweltschutz Ost brought us a wonderful cake decorated with frogs.

The bentonite open-pit mine, which was previously operated by Clariant Produkte (Germany), was filled with 2,238,651 metric tons of soil and construction waste - most of which came from our own activities - during this period.
We were issued with the first approval by the Mining Office on December 9, 1998 and this was extended several times, the last time being on June 28, 2018 until July 31, 2019.

Final land restoration work is already under way and will continue until mid-2020. After completion of the restoration work, the site will be turned into an ostrich farm. The first ostriches were already introduced to areas cleared for this purpose four years ago.
